Introducing The NatureMade Food & Drink Awards

Brought to you by the team behind The Global Vinegar Awards, the NatureMade Awards shine a spotlight on products that champion natural ingredients and transparent production. With more than 50% of the food we buy currently classed as ultra-processed, it’s never been more important for natural alternatives to stand out.

Amid a growing movement for better nutrition and honest labelling, we spoke to Pip Martin about the thinking behind these awards, what makes a product eligible, and how award medal stickers can help brands tell their story at a glance.

The Inspiration Behind The NatureMade Awards

What motivated you to create awards dedicated to natural and sustainable brands?

“I was motivated in no small part by Chris van Tulleken’s book Ultra-Processed People. I saw a need for a sustainability-led awards competition devoted to food and drink free from artificial ingredients and ultra-processing. The competition in many ways supports producers that do the hard work, and don’t compromise on their approach - I wanted to develop a competition that reflects their values.”

The name "NatureMade" suggests a strong focus on eco-credentials. What values do you look for?

“The awards have a simple set of eligibility criteria that entries must meet, including—amongst other elements—a prohibition on airfreighting, a requirement to be GMO-free, and packaging that is at least 80% recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable by weight. The competition is also vegetarian in scope and is alcohol free.”

As the official supplier of award medal stickers to your winners, we love seeing our printed labels proudly displayed on packaging. Why do you think physical award stickers are important?

“Physical award stickers offer instant, visible recognition. They stand out on shelves, signal credibility, and act as a shortcut for shoppers looking for products that have been independently judged. They’re also a powerful tool for storytelling.”

For brands thinking of entering, what advice would you give?

“Spend a couple of minutes reading the awards’ eligibility criteria (it shouldn’t take any longer than this) and make sure your product is eligible (the awards accommodate a broad basket of goods). We’ve designed the entry process to be as frictionless as possible. Any interested applicants are also welcome to contact me, I love hearing from people in the industry.
