Meet Walter

Some of you may already have had the pleasure of meeting our Walter, or if you have ordered labels from us, then Walter would have been an important part of the process! In this blog, Walter explains what his role is and divulges his superpower as Gunners Yeoman aboard HMS Cardiff. Over to you sir…

How long have you worked for inkREADible?

“I have worked here for 1 year now.”

What does your day at work usually consist of?

“I work in dispatch. My main task is packing up and sending out orders of labels and of course any other task that is asked of me - within reason!

What’s your most/least favourite task?

“I enjoy the comradery atmosphere at work and the flexibility - I don’t enjoy the painting that I volunteered to do though - big mistake!”

Tell us about your role on HMS Cardiff

“My role onboard HMS Cardiff was Gunners Yeoman, in charge of all the small arms and ammunition for them. I was a gunner, and my position was Gun Sight Controller on the GUNNER DIRECTIONAL PLATFORM (GDP).”

This year sees the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War of 1982, how did you mark the event?

“An event was held at Cardiff and was attended by the crew of HMS CARDIFF of which I was one. 120 of the original crew attended the event which consisted of an informal gathering on the Friday evening followed by a formal dinner on the Saturday at the Angel Hotel in the Prince of Wales Suite.

On Sunday morning the crew marched towards the Falklands Memorial Gardens and a service was held to commemorate the event and to remember the 255 that did not make it home and also the Argentine forces that died in the war.”

Thank you Walter
