Recycled Polypropylene Label Material - Fasson
Here at inkREADible, we are delighted to now be able to offer a recycled PP (Polypropylene Plastic) material for labels and stickers to our customers. It won’t suit every use and application but here you will find a general description to see if it meets your requirements.
The trademark name for this recycled label material is Fasson. It is made from 90% + 99% recycled material and works well for products that need a label with a plastic look and feel, for example, refrigeration products or products exposed to moisture or grease.
Is it cost effective?
The material is currently about 25% more expensive than other standard, non-recycled plastic label materials. That is not to say the price will not decrease as it becomes more popular though.
By comparison, also consider that the price of non-recycled plastic PP is expected to increase from April 2022, as a result of a new government plastic tax.
What do recycled PP labels look like?
Buffalicious, an early adopter of Recycled PP material said, "Its always good to move with the times and using the recycled PP material, given the volume of labels we use, seemed like the most ethical move forward."
Labels made from recycled PP have a premium look and feel, with a machine finished wood free offset paper. We hope to be able to offer samples to our customers for testing very soon.
Shelf Life
Under most conditions labels will last for 2 years. Of course prolonged storage outside and exposure to weather and sun conditions, may reduce the shelf life.
Compatible Printing techniques
The modified acrylic based top coating can be printed by using most printing techniques including flexo, screen, offset, letterpress, silkscreen, gravure, and hot or cold foiling processes.
Inks
UV, water-based and solvent-based inks can all be used, however on-press corona treatment is not advised. The face material is suitable for Thermal Transfer printing. This material has very good register properties especially when a high number of different colours are used.
Compliance and Approvals
The film complies with EU standards and guidelines including food contact safety regulations.
Applications and Use
We see this material being in high demand for barcoding labels, price labels, food labels, beauty and cosmetic labels and much more. Due to the fairly rigid nature of the films, care should be taken with use on non-uniform surfaces such as where a level of squeezability is desired.
